Tottenham Hotspur has secured the signing of Romanian defender Radu Dragusin from Genoa in a £25m deal. At 21, Dragusin is Spurs’ second acquisition in the January window, following the loan signing of German forward Timo Werner from RB Leipzig.

The Romania international, boasting 13 senior caps, played a key role in all 22 Serie A matches for Genoa this season.

As part of the deal, Tottenham’s Djed Spence, a defender, has been loaned to Genoa for the remainder of the season. Dragusin, who started his career at Juventus and made a permanent move to Genoa last summer after a loan spell, signed a contract keeping him with Tottenham until the summer of 2030.

Despite interest from Bayern Munich, Dragusin opted for Spurs, while Bayern secured a loan deal for Tottenham’s Eric Dier. Dier, a 29-year-old English defender with 49 international caps, struggled to secure a regular spot in Tottenham’s first team this season. His loan to Bayern includes an option for a permanent transfer.

Tottenham’s search for a center-back was driven by injuries to Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven. In recent weeks, manager Postecoglou deployed full-backs Ben Davies and Emerson Royal in central defense due to the team’s defensive challenges.

Meanwhile, Djed Spence, who had a season-long loan at Leeds cut short, returned to Spurs after making only seven Championship appearances.
