Tottenham Hotspur completed the signing of goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli on Tuesday, with a reported transfer fee of £16 million ($20 million).

Vicario’s arrival is expected to provide strong competition for Spurs’ captain Hugo Lloris, who has entered the final year of his contract with the club. The Italian shot-stopper will vie for the position of Ange Postecoglou’s first-choice goalkeeper.

The 26-year-old has garnered praise for his performances over the past two seasons at Empoli, following stints at Udinese, Cagliari, Perugia, and Venezia.

Vicario marks Tottenham’s second signing of the summer transfer window, following the conversion of Dejan Kulusevski’s loan move from Juventus into a permanent transfer. The club is actively bolstering its squad ahead of the upcoming season.

Tottenham fans are eager to see how Vicario’s arrival will elevate the competition within the team’s goalkeeping department and potentially impact Hugo Lloris’ role. As the club’s new signing, Vicario is poised to make a significant contribution to Tottenham’s ambitions under the guidance of manager Ange Postecoglou.
