Tusker FC extended their winning streak against Sofapaka to eight years in the Kenya Premier League, securing a convincing 3-1 victory in a decisive clash at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos town.
Fabian Adikinyi opened the scoring for Tusker in the 59th minute, followed by quick goals from Eric Kapaito (60th minute) and David Odoyo (72nd minute). Sofapaka’s Keagan Ndembi managed a consolation goal.
Meanwhile, AFC Leopards secured a 1-0 win over Muhoroni Youth, courtesy of Jaffer Owiti’s lone goal. Nairobi City Stars mirrored the scoreline in their victory against Posta Rangers. Shabana welcomed new coach Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo with a resounding 5-2 win over Nzoia Sugar.
Tusker, who have maintained an unbeaten record against Sofapaka since December 2021, continued their dominance in this encounter. The recent history between the two teams saw Tusker clinch victories of 1-0, 2-0, 1-0, and 2-0, with only a goalless draw standing as a credible result for Sofapaka. Since 2016, Tusker has secured six victories over Sofapaka, affirming their supremacy.
The game started energetically, with Tusker utilizing the support of their fans, and though the first half ended without goals, the hosts picked up the pace in the second half.
With this crucial victory, Tusker moved up to the third position in the league standings with 31 points, while Gor Mahia continues to lead with 40 points from 18 matches. Nairobi City Stars sits in second place with 33 points. Tusker coach Robert Matano credited the team’s second-half performance and promised to maintain their impressive record against league leaders Gor Mahia in the upcoming match.
Sofapaka coach Zedekia ‘Zico’ Otieno acknowledged their strong first-half performance but attributed defensive lapses in the second half to their defeat.
In other Kenyan Premier League results, Nairobi City Stars beat Posta Rangers 1-0, Shabana triumphed 5-2 over Nzoia Sugar, Police won 1-0 against Bidco United, and Ulinzi played to a goalless draw against KCB.
