Tusker FC, the defending champions of the FKF Premier League, is actively working towards establishing a women’s football team in order to comply with the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) regulations and participate in intercontinental club competitions in the upcoming season.

Sam Nzau, the Chief Executive Officer of Tusker FC, has confirmed ongoing discussions with potential women’s clubs with the aim of either acquiring an existing team or forming a long-term partnership by the end of the current season.

“This is a conversation we initiated even before receiving the CAF directive, and we are committed to having a Tusker women’s team in place as the discussions progress,” stated Nzau.

CAF had communicated to all affiliated clubs that, in order to participate in the next season’s tournaments, it is mandatory for them to have a women’s team, as part of the continent’s drive to promote women’s football.

In addition to the women’s team development, Nzau revealed plans to upgrade the club’s home ground, Ruaraka Grounds, ahead of the next season to enhance their home advantage.

“While we are currently facing some challenges with our ground, we are tirelessly working to ensure our players have the best facilities and our fans have proper stands,” Nzau assured.

Currently occupying the second position in the FKF Premier League with 65 points, trailing leaders Gor Mahia by two points, Tusker FC aims to close the gap as they face Posta Rangers and Vihiga Bullets in their remaining two matches before their encounter with Kakamega Homeboyz in the Cup final.

Tusker FC emerged as the champions of the league last season; however, the title was subsequently declared null and void due to the administration being run by the illegal caretaker and transition committees.

The establishment of a women’s team by Tusker FC showcases their commitment to promoting gender equality in football and contributing to the growth of women’s football in Kenya and beyond.
