Tusker FC sealed a double triumph over KCB with a 2-0 victory, propelling them to third place in the FKF Premier League standings in a commanding display at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Sunday.
The 12-time champions, who previously routed the Bankers 5-0 in the first leg, secured their win with second-half goals courtesy of Chris Erambo and John Njuguna. The victory serves to narrow the gap between Tusker and league leaders Gor Mahia, although it remains in the double digits.
With 37 points to their name, Tusker sits comfortably in third position, trailing behind Gor Mahia by 10 points. They share the same points tally with Kenya Police FC, Bandari, and Nairobi City Stars, but are separated by goal difference.
Facing pressure following a challenging two-month winless streak, KCB adopted a cautious approach from the onset, wary of their opponents’ recent dominance. Despite some promising offensive plays, notably from Stephen Etyang and Shadrack Simiyu, the Bankers failed to convert their chances.
Tusker, meanwhile, faced tight marking on their lead striker Eric Kapaito, limiting their attacking opportunities. However, a moment of brilliance arrived as Erambo headed in a corner from Njuguna in the 67th minute, opening the scoring for the brewers and rejuvenating their confidence.
In the latter stages of the game, Tusker further solidified their lead with Njuguna’s superb volleyed goal, orchestrated from a Collins Odhiambo freekick. Despite KCB’s efforts, they were unable to stage a comeback, succumbing to another defeat at the hands of Tusker.
The introduction of Joseph Mwangi, Collins Otieno, Joshua Ibrahim, and Eric Zakayo injected fresh energy into Tusker’s attack, ensuring their dominance until the final whistle.
With this impressive victory, Tusker FC reaffirms their title contention in the FKF Premier League, while KCB faces the challenge of regaining momentum after another setback against their rivals.
