Roma coach Jose Mourinho has been formally charged by Uefa for his use of insulting and abusive language directed at an official during Wednesday’s Europa League final.
The 60-year-old Portuguese manager was booked by English referee Anthony Taylor in Budapest, where Roma suffered a defeat on penalties against Sevilla following a 1-1 draw.
Following the contentious match, Mourinho was captured in a car park engaging in a heated confrontation with Taylor, unleashing a foul-mouthed rant in the process.
In addition to Mourinho’s charges, both Roma and Sevilla face several allegations concerning the conduct of their respective fans. The disciplinary actions from Uefa come as they assess the incidents that marred the eventful final.
Sevilla, the perennial contenders in the Europa League, once again demonstrated their prowess by triumphing over AS Roma in a thrilling final that ended 4-1 in a penalty shootout.
The victory marked their seventh title in the competition, solidifying their status as the undisputed kings of the Europa League.
Notably, this defeat inflicted by Sevilla handed Roma manager Jose Mourinho his first loss in six European finals.
