Beatrice Chebet, the Commonwealth Games 5000m champion, continued her unbeaten streak this year with an impressive performance at the Stockholm Diamond League on Sunday.

In her first appearance of the season in the 5000m race at the Diamond League, Chebet faced strong competition from a formidable Ethiopian contingent led by Tsigie Gerbresalama, the world cross-country silver medallist.

Showing her strength and determination, the 23-year-old Kenyan athlete dominated the race and pulled away from the field with just over 300m to go. She crossed the finish line with a new season best of 14:36.52, securing a comfortable victory.

Limb Hailu and Medina Eisa, both from Ethiopia, finished second and third with times of 14:38.06 and 14:40.02, respectively.

Reflecting on her win, Chebet acknowledged the challenge of competing against a strong Ethiopian team. She mentioned the need to fight for victory and the tough weather conditions during the race. Despite the unfavourable conditions, Chebet emphasized the importance of adapting and persevering, ultimately achieving her goal of winning the race.

Looking ahead, with the World Championships in Budapest just over a month away, Chebet has her sights set on upgrading her silver medal from last year’s Worlds in Oregon. Her main goal is to set a new personal best at 5000m, and she hopes to have favourable conditions in London to make that attempt. Feeling confident and in good shape, Chebet believes anything is possible. However, her primary focus remains on the upcoming World Championships in Budapest, where she aims to reach the podium in the 5000m event.

Beatrice Chebet’s remarkable performance in Stockholm demonstrates her exceptional talent and determination as she continues to excel in her athletic career.
