Red Bull’s Max Verstappen clinched a commanding win at the Mexico City Grand Prix, surpassing his own record for the most victories in a single Formula 1 season.

Verstappen seized an incredible 16th win in 2023, marking an increasingly dominant season in Formula 1 history. He initiated his triumph by overtaking the front-row Ferraris right from the start, setting him on a course for victory, despite navigating a safety car and a red flag incident.

Lewis Hamilton made an impressive ascent from sixth place on the grid in his Mercedes, outperforming Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in the duel for the remaining podium spots.

In a thrilling battle for fourth, Carlos Sainz successfully held off George Russell in a Ferrari-Mercedes clash, and Lando Norris outpaced Russell for fifth place in the closing laps.

Verstappen’s confidence proved valid as he shot ahead at the race start, swiftly surpassing Carlos Sainz and moving in close alongside Leclerc. The three drivers engaged in a tense three-way battle, while Sergio Perez’s involvement came to an unfortunate end after a collision with Leclerc.

The race was further impacted by a red flag incident at half distance, which allowed Verstappen to have a ‘free’ pit stop, altering the dynamics of the competition.

While the crash by Kevin Magnussen resulted in a temporary race suspension for barrier repairs, it offered Verstappen an additional opportunity for a tire change.
