Victor Wembanyama, the towering talent of the San Antonio Spurs, has clinched the NBA Rookie of the Year title, making history as the first French player to do so.

His impressive season averages of 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 3.6 blocked shots (leading the league), and 1.2 steals per game have not gone unnoticed, as he secured a unanimous vote, receiving all 99 first-place votes.

Despite the Spurs’ struggle this season, finishing with the second-worst record in the Western Conference, Wembanyama’s individual brilliance shone through. He set a new record as the youngest player to achieve a ‘five-by-five’—amassing 27 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists, five steals, and five blocked shots in just 30 minutes against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Joining the ranks of Spurs legends Tim Duncan and David Robinson, Wembanyama also recorded a standout game with 30 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and five blocks. His March performance against Indiana was particularly noteworthy, with 31 points, 12 rebounds, six assists, six blocks, and a steal.

Standing at 7 feet 4 inches, Wembanyama is not only a force on the court but also a frontrunner for the Defensive Player of the Year award. His exceptional skills have put him on the radar for France’s Olympic team, as he is expected to represent his nation in the upcoming Paris Summer Olympics.
