The reigning champions of Vihiga County Secondary School football, Vihiga Boys, have been eliminated from the tournament after a series of underwhelming performances in the group stages.
The team’s journey came to an end despite a goalless draw against Ebwali Boys on Thursday, as they failed to secure a spot in the semifinals.
Ebwali Boys, on the other hand, secured their place in the semifinals with a decisive 3-0 victory over Chavakali High. The win was attributed to the team’s effective strategy in neutralizing Chavakali’s formidable wingers, as noted by Ebwali’s coach, Francis Muhambe. The Luanda-based team is now set to face Emusire Boys from Emuhaya in the upcoming semifinal match at Mumboha playground.
Muhambe, addressing his team’s critics, emphasized his focus on securing victories rather than playing entertaining football. He argued that the ultimate goal is to win, even if it means adopting a more pragmatic approach to the game.
Chavakali High’s coach, Hillary Muleri, offered a contrasting perspective, promising fans a display of quality football in their semifinal match against Shamakhokho. Muleri expressed confidence in his team’s ability to overcome any opponent, including a potential rematch with Ebwali.
The semifinal lineup is as follows: Ebwali Boys will take on Emusire Boys, while Chavakali High faces Shamakhokho. The winners will represent Vihiga County in the Western region school games scheduled for later in July in Bungoma.
In other matches, Madira will compete against Kilingili, and Mudavadi will challenge Ibubi, both vying for a chance to advance in the prestigious school football games. The competition continues to heat up as teams vie for regional glory and the opportunity to showcase their talents on a larger stage.
