Jeremiah Wahome emerged victorious amidst dusty and windy conditions during the sixth round of the Kenya National Rally Championship (KNRC) hosted by the Mombasa Motor Club at Mombasa Cement Vipingo in Kilifi County over the weekend.

This young rally driver, behind the wheel of a Ford Fiesta with co-driver Victor Okundi, achieved a remarkable time of 02:12:12 after conquering the challenging six stages of the two-day event, which concluded on Sunday.

This coastal rally mirrored the season-opening Machakos Rally, where Wahome demonstrated his dominance over all his stage competitors. In the final stage, only five out of 12 cars managed to complete the race. Jasmeet Chana secured the runner-up position with a time of 02:13:31, driving a Mitsubishi Evolution 10, while Anthony Nelsen claimed the third position with a time of 02:14:18.

After the rally, Wahome expressed his elation at their strong start despite the challenging conditions, describing the stages as long and bumpy, which posed significant challenges along the way.

He remarked, “Words alone can’t explain the excitement of my first national home win and second career KNRC win. And that they’ve both come in the same season makes this my best season ever.”

Mwaura Njuguna, the General Manager of the Kenya Motor Sports Federation (KMSF), commended the participating teams for the success of the annual two-day event. However, he encouraged clubs to introduce night rally stages to explore additional opportunities in the industry.

Njuguna stated, “We encourage clubs to start organizing night rallies to allow us to get back to where we used to be during the old Safari Rally days.”

He also praised Mombasa Cement, the main sponsor of the event, for their significant contribution to the success of the sixth round of the Kenya National Rally Championship.

“They have always been supportive of this event and are also involved in KNRC and autocross among other events that we run,” Njuguna added.

The victory in Vipingo on the North Coast marked Wahome’s second podium finish, following his third-place achievement in Eldoret.
