Emmanuel Wanyonyi kicked off his season in grand style, clinching victory at the Diamond League event in Marrakech with a stellar performance in the 800m race.

Wanyonyi crossed the finish line in 1:43.84, narrowly defeating fellow Kenyan Wycliffe Kinyamal, who clocked in at 1:43.98.

Post-race, Wanyonyi shared his satisfaction with the result, acknowledging the challenge posed by the windy conditions and expressing gratitude for the crowd’s support.

Looking ahead, he’s gearing up for upcoming races in Eugene, possibly Paris and Monaco, all leading to his ultimate goal, a medal at the Olympic Games.

Wanyonyi, who had previously triumphed at the Kip Keino Classic, demonstrated his excellent form with a calculated performance in Morocco, outpacing Kinyamal in a thrilling final sprint. Despite a difficult race, Olympic champion Emmanuel Korir managed to set his season’s best time of 1:52.14.

In the men’s steeplechase, Amos Serem emerged as the top Kenyan, securing third place with a time of 8:10.82. The event was won by Moroccan world champion Soufiane El Bakkali, cheered on by the home crowd to his season’s fastest of 8:09.40, just ahead of Ethiopia’s Getnet Wale.

The women’s 5,000m saw Edinah Jebitok as the standout Kenyan, finishing third with a personal best of 14:35.64, an improvement of nine seconds from her previous best. Meanwhile, Vincent Kibet represented Kenya in the men’s 1500m but finished at the back with a time of 3:46.75.
