Beatrice Chebet, the reigning Commonwealth Games Champion, has set ambitious goals for 2024, aiming to defend her World Cross Country Championships title and compete for a gold medal at the Olympic Games in Paris.

The 23-year-old Kenyan athlete kicked off the year with a remarkable achievement, breaking the world record in the 5km road running with a time of 14:13 at the Cursa dels Nassos race in Barcelona.

Chebet expressed her delight at breaking the world record, emphasizing that it has fueled her motivation for the upcoming year. Her first major competition will be at the World Cross Country Championships in Belgrade, Serbia, where she looks to defend her title won in Australia the previous year.

Looking ahead to the Olympic Games, Chebet is determined to vie for gold in the 5,000m event, marking her debut at the prestigious sporting event. While participating in the Diamond League circuit and other global track meets, she remains focused on her ultimate goals for the season.

Chebet also hinted at the possibility of targeting the 5,000m track world record, acknowledging that such achievements are unpredictable but expressing her readiness to seize the opportunity if it arises. With a strong work ethic and determination, Chebet is optimistic about having a successful and fulfilling season in 2024.
