The joint funeral committee has announced that Kelvin Kiptum, the World Marathon record holder, will be laid to rest on the 24th of this month at his rural home in Elgeyo Marakwet.

Tragically, Kiptum lost his life on Sunday in a road accident near the Kaptagat Forest, alongside his coach, Gervais Hakizimana.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba declared on Monday that his ministry will collaborate closely with the family to ensure that the 24-year-old athlete receives a hero’s farewell.

Simultaneously, plans are underway to repatriate the body of Kiptum’s coach, Hakizimana, back to Rwanda.

The news of Kiptum’s untimely passing has plunged Kenyans from all walks of life into mourning. Athletics Kenya has established a condolence book at Riadha House for individuals who wish to express their tributes.

Additionally, during its Wednesday meeting, the Cabinet observed a minute of silence in honor of the departed athlete.
