World record holder Faith Kipyegon has been named the LG/SJAK Sports Personality of the Month for the second consecutive time, honouring her outstanding achievements in July.

The two-time Olympic champion received this prestigious accolade for her remarkable performance at the Monaco Diamond League, where she set a new world record of 4:07.64 in the mile event.

Before this, she had already earned recognition for her groundbreaking accomplishments in June when she shattered the women’s 1,500m and 5,000m world records on separate occasions. In recognition of her spectacular feats in Monaco, the 29-year-old was presented with an LG 55″ NanoCell TV valued at KES 118,000.

Geoffrey Mwamburi, a member of the SJAK Executive Committee, and Glenda Achieng, LG PR and Digital Manager, commended Faith Kipyegon for her extraordinary performances throughout the season. They emphasized that her success serves as an inspiration to athletes worldwide, emphasizing the significance of hard work and discipline in sports.

In response, Faith expressed her gratitude and vowed to continue pushing her boundaries as she gears up for the World Athletics Championships, scheduled to commence on August 19 in Budapest.

Receiving the award for July, Faith Kipyegon faced tough competition from African 100m record holder Ferdinand Omanyala.

Additionally, world record holder Jackline Chepkoech in the women’s 3,000m steeplechase, Eugene Adera, who made his debut for the men’s basketball team – Morans, and Derick Ogechi, the seventh-best scorer in the AfroCan continental contest, also received nominations for the LG/SJAK Sports Personality of the Month.

SJAK President James Waindi expressed high hopes for Faith Kipyegon’s performance at the upcoming 2023 World Championships, congratulating her on the well-deserved second Sports Personality of the Month award. He assured her that sports journalists would continue to share the inspiring stories of athletes making history in both local and international races.
