Kenyan athlete Faith Kipyegon, who recently set new World Records in the 1500m and 5000m races, has been awarded a cash incentive of Ksh.2 million by Safaricom, a leading telecommunications company.
In a ceremony held at Safaricom’s 29-floor skyscraper in the central business district, Kipyegon was celebrated for her outstanding performance.
During the event, Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa praised Kipyegon for putting Kenya on the global map and highlighted the company’s commitment to supporting talent in the country. A wall mapping of Kipyegon was also unveiled at the skyscraper as a tribute to her achievements.
Expressing her gratitude, Kipyegon thanked Safaricom and encouraged young athletes and mothers to follow their passions, remain focused, and believe in themselves.

Ndegwa emphasized that Safaricom would continue to be involved in sports as it serves as a source of inspiration and passion for many Kenyans.
Kipyegon, who completed the 1500m race in a time of 3:49.11 and the 5000m race in 14:05.20, now sets her sights on the IAAF Diamond League event in Monaco, scheduled for July.
Her ultimate goal for the year is the World Athletics Championship in Budapest, Hungary, taking place from the 19th to the 27th of August.
Overall, the recognition and cash incentive from Safaricom not only celebrate Kipyegon’s extraordinary achievements but also aim to inspire and motivate other talented individuals in Kenya.
