World Record Holder Kipyegon Welcomed by Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba at JKIA
Cabinet Secretary for Youths, Arts, and Sports Ababu Namwamba warmly received the exceptional athlete Faith Kipyegon, holder of the 1500m and 5000m World Records, upon her arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Tuesday morning.
Joining in the reception were Nairobi Governor Sakaja, the Principal Secretary for Youth Athletics, and Kenya President Gen. Rtd. Jackson Tuwei.
Faith Kipyegon achieved a remarkable feat by shattering two World Records within a week at the prestigious Diamond League events held in Florence, Italy, and Paris, France. She clocked an astonishing time of 3 minutes and 49.11 seconds in the 1500m race, and an impressive 14 minutes and 5.20 seconds in the 5000m race.
During the reception, Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba reiterated the ministry’s unwavering commitment to honouring and rewarding Kenya’s sports champions. He recognized these exceptional athletes as the “goose that lays the golden egg” and emphasized their significance as the country’s foremost branding assets.
Accompanied by the entourage, which also included Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala, Faith Kipyegon and the team proceeded to State House, where they were warmly received by President Ruto, alongside Deputy President Gachagua.
The nation celebrates Faith Kipyegon’s outstanding achievements and looks forward to more remarkable performances from Kenya’s exceptional athletes on the global stage.
