Zetech University dominated the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) women’s playoffs quarterfinals, defeating Africa Nazarene University Panthers 83-42 to secure a place in the semifinals at Nyayo Stadium.
Led by Mary Lisa’s three-pointer, the Maurice Obilo-led Zetech team had a comfortable 20-5 and 20-8 lead in the first two quarters.
Despite trailing 17-14 in the final quarter, they maintained their charge throughout the game with a 29-12 third-quarter advantage.
Chantal Kiyobe and Maureen Bosibori scored 18 and 12 points, respectively, while Mercy Muno contributed 18 points for ANU. Zetech’s win sealed a 2-0 series victory following their 85-31 victory in Game One.
In another quarterfinal match, Strathmore University Swords beat Storms 49-40, taking a 2-0 series lead, with Joy Mupalia leading the way with 10 points.
The Swords’ coach, Ronny Owino, expressed his satisfaction with their achievement, noting that finishing among the top four teams in the league was a good accomplishment.
The men’s quarterfinals saw Ulinzi Warriors comfortably advancing to the semis with a 63-48 victory over Eldonets Platinum. Kenya Morans’ Eric Mutoro scored 16 points, while Derick Ochieng bagged 17 points, helping Ulinzi secure their spot in the next round. Meanwhile, Jeremiah Aliva’s 10 points could not save Eldonets Platinum from elimination.
In the lower division matches, National Bank of Kenya thrashed Congo Nets of Mombasa 75-46, securing a 2-1 series win, while unbeaten Stanbic Bank defeated Little Prince 75-63.
Strathmore University Team Two also progressed to the next round after knocking out Scarlets 63-50. In the women’s playoffs, two-time champions Equity Bank Hawks thrashed the University of Nairobi Dynamites 86-27 in Game One, with Annerose Mandela scoring 17 points and Shilalei Shani 13 for the bankers. The second game was still ongoing at the time of reporting.
