Maurice Obilo, the head coach of Zetech Sparks, praised his team for their stellar performance during the weekend’s Kenya National Women’s Basketball League matches.
The Sparks showcased their prowess with a trio of wins: a 45-26 victory over Storms, a 63-38 win against Strathmore Swords, and a 50-27 triumph against Africa Nazarene University Panthers.
This winning streak signifies a robust rebound for Zetech following a loss to the reigning champions, Kenya Ports Authority. Coach Obilo was pleased with how his team executed their strategy and maintained focus, even with a challenging schedule and the absence of two pivotal players. With an eye on the playoffs, the team is adjusting their focus as they advance through the season.
Zetech Sparks currently occupy the second spot in the league standings with 31 points from 16 games, just three points behind the undefeated KPA.
In a closely contested match, the Equity Hawks, led by coach Benson Oluoch, displayed commendable tenacity despite a narrow 55-57 loss to KPA.
Coach Oluoch acknowledged the game’s difficulty but was proud of his team’s resilience, especially after a slow start, and their ability to win the second and third quarters.
Although they missed victory by a single basket in the final quarter, Oluoch is confident in the team’s growth and their trajectory towards success in future competitions beyond the premier league. The Equity Hawks are currently in third place in the league, with 27 points from 15 games.
