Zimbabwe retains Barthes Trophy with Impressive Win Over Kenya
Zimbabwe emerged victorious at the Rugby Africa Under-20 Barthes Trophy, defeating Kenya 28-7 in the final held at Nyayo National Stadium.
Kenya’s U-20 side, Chipu, scored their only try through captain Laban Kipsang and were trailing 21-7 at halftime.
Namibia claimed third place after a stunning comeback against Tunisia, winning 25-20 in sudden death.
Zimbabwe’s win was impressive as it was the first try they had conceded in the tournament, having beaten Cote d’Ivoire 55-0 and Tunisia 60-6 in the quarter-finals and semi-finals respectively.
The Barthes Trophy is named after the late Jean-Luc Barthes, and serves as a qualifying event for the World Rugby Under-20 Trophy.
Scotland, Hong Kong, Samoa, Spain, Uruguay, and Zimbabwe will be participating in the World Trophy, and the remaining slot will be filled by the winner of the U20 North America championship between the USA and Canada, which will be held on May 30 and June 3.
