Zetech Sparks, fresh off their victory in the inaugural Eliud Owalo Foundation Invitational Tournament, are gearing up for a challenging weekend in the Kenya National Basketball Premier League. They are set to face the University of Nairobi’s Dynamites and the formidable Equity Hawks.
The Sparks will first take on the Dynamites at the UoN grounds, followed by a clash with the Equity Hawks at the USIU grounds. Despite limited preparation time due to inclement weather, head coach Maurice Obilo remains optimistic about maintaining their positive trajectory in the women’s league.
“We’re focusing on the Dynamites for our first game, then we’ll shift our attention to Sunday’s matchup against Equity. We’re taking it one game at a time,” Obilo stated.
On the other side, Equity Hawks’ coach Benson Oluoch is preparing his team for an upset. The Hawks are honing their strategy to neutralize Zetech’s key players, Medina Okot and Mitchell Soukoujou, while also enhancing their offensive play.
Zetech Sparks, currently in second place with 38 points, aim to secure their position with two more victories as they conclude their regular season. The Equity Hawks, in third place with 33 points, and the UON Dynamites, in eighth place with 26 points, are also looking to make an impact as the playoffs approach.
In the men’s league, the USIU Tigers, led by coach David Maina, are preparing to host the Ulinzi Warriors. The Tigers, newcomers to the league and currently sixth on the log, are eager to return to winning form and secure a favorable spot for the playoffs.
The weekend’s fixtures are packed with exciting matchups, including the USIU Flames against JKUAT Lynx and the Strathmore Swords, as well as the Ulinzi Warriors facing Eldonets Platinum. All teams are vying for crucial wins as the season progresses towards the playoffs.
