National women’s basketball champions Equity Hawks rebounded from their tough loss to Rwanda’s Energy Group (REG) on Monday with an emphatic 87-48 win over Fox Divas in their third Africa Zone Five Championship game in Zanzibar.
The Hawks, who struggled in their previous matchup against a REG side featuring Kenyan stars Mercy Wanyama and Victoria Reynolds, showed renewed focus and dominated the Zanzibari team.
Equity led from the start, holding Fox Divas to under 10 points in both of the final quarters. They took an early lead, finishing the first quarter at 31-22, and extended it to 49-36 by halftime.
In the second half, Equity’s defense held strong as they outscored the Divas 20-7 in the third quarter and 18-5 in the final, securing the decisive victory.
Judith Pantaleo led the scoring with 19 points, while captain Betty Kananu added 16 points. Maryanne Nyagaki also contributed a solid 13 points, helping Equity Hawks lock in their impressive comeback performance.
