Gaspo Women and Vihiga Queens both secured wins on Wednesday to maintain their positions as the top two teams in the Kenya Women Premier League.
Gaspo Women defeated Thika Queens 4-2, while Vihiga Queens won 2-0 against Ulinzi Starlets in a highly contested match. Anita Namata scored the opening goal for Vihiga before Janet Moraa secured their victory with a late penalty.
Both Gaspo Women and Vihiga Queens now have 46 points each, with Gaspo Women having a superior goal difference. At the Thika Sub-County Stadium, Elizabeth Wambui scored twice, while Diana Wacera and Lydia Akoth were also on the scoresheet as Gaspo Women fought back from a goal down to secure an important away victory.
Thika Queens had taken an early lead through a goal by Stella Odhiambo before Pauline Musungu scored their second of the match.
Meanwhile, Zetech Sparks were held to a 1-1 draw by Trans Nzoia Falcons at the Camp Toyoyo grounds in Nairobi. Falcons took the lead in the 13th minute through Nakhumila Leomda, but Zetech forward Abudala Firidhaus scored a late equalizer to secure a point for his team. Both teams are fighting to avoid relegation.
In Nakuru, hosts Nakuru City Queens battled to a 3-3 draw with Wadadia Women. Lena Were scored twice for Nakuru, while Merceline Wafula added the third goal. For Wadadia, Jackline Chesang scored their first goal before Mukwana Eglay scored twice to secure a point for her team.

The pressure is now mounting on Gaspo Women and Vihiga Queens as they both aim to win the league title. Gaspo goalkeeper trainer James Ombeng’, who stood in for head coach Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee, acknowledged that it was a tough match but they are focused on winning all their remaining games.
Thika Queens, on the other hand, have now lost three successive matches under their new coach Benter Achieng. They are currently missing the services of their top scorer, Wendy Achieng, who is yet to recover from a nose injury.
