Western Jaguars showcased their dominance by defeating Kenya College of Accountancy University (KCAU) 2-0 in the ongoing Kenya Hockey Union men’s Premier League in a thrilling encounter at the City Park Hockey Stadium, Nairobi.
Derrick Juma and Job Wandera displayed their skills with outstanding field goals in the 24th and 58th minutes respectively, securing the victory for the team under the guidance of coach Micheal Malungu.
The Jaguars had already displayed their prowess in their previous matches, starting with a 1-1 draw against reigning champions Butali Sugar Warriors in their opening fixture.
They continued their winning streak by defeating the United States International University of Africa (USIU-A) 2-0 on Saturday. Despite their strong start to the season, coach Malungu acknowledged that there is room for improvement in terms of player fitness.
“As the season progresses, I hope our players can maintain composure. Our upcoming matches against Strathmore and Wazalendo will be challenging, but we aim to perform at our best when we face them later this month.
Both teams possess technical skills and youthfulness, but we are determined to come out on top. Today, we were a bit sluggish and disjointed, but we have enough time to address these issues,” stated Malungu.
In the women’s Premier League clash, USIU-A held Amira Sailors to a 1-1 draw. Gilly Okumu, the talented captain of the national team, provided the lead for the self-supporting outfit with a penalty stroke in the 11th minute.
However, Naomi Kemunto’s penalty corner in the 36th minute leveled the scores, resulting in a well-fought draw.
In the men’s Super League, Wazalendo Masters demonstrated their prowess by overpowering Mombasa Sports Club with a comfortable 2-0 victory. Captain Erich Ochieng (5th minute) and Joab Ondiro (34th minute) found the back of the net, securing a commendable win for their team.
At the same venue, Parklands Sports Club clinched a narrow 1-0 victory against Nakuru Hockey Club. Frankline Kiyondi’s goal in the fourth minute proved decisive, awarding Parklands Sports Club the well-deserved win.
In the women’s Super League, Twinkle suffered their first defeat of the season as they were unable to overcome Rift Pirates Ladies, who secured a 1-0 victory.
Lucky Vaat’s fantastic field goal in the 12th minute proved to be the match-winning moment. Twinkle’s loss came after an impressive unbeaten run of five matches.
