Homabay, Uasin Gishu, Busia, and Kisumu County girls’ teams have secured spots in the semi-finals of the Talanta Hela Under-19 national finals following their victories in the quarterfinals on Friday.
In a closely contested match, Homabay faced a tough challenge against Machakos, eventually winning 5-4 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in regular time.
Machakos’ substitute keeper, Tracy Atata, was brought in just before penalties but conceded all five, securing Homabay’s progression. Quinter Adhiambo opened the scoring for Homabay in the 3rd minute, and despite Machakos equalizing twice, Homabay secured the win in the penalty shootout.
In another quarterfinal clash, Busia County dominated Nairobi with a resounding 7-0 victory. Star player and captain Faith Lornah led the way with a hat-trick, while Yvonne Adhiambo contributed a brace, and Diana Anyango and JoyAngela Valencia added one each.
Uasin Gishu faced off against West Pokot in a late kick-off at Kasarani, securing a 5-2 victory. Sunira Manda and Marytricia Nafula gave Uasin Gishu a 2-0 lead, and despite West Pokot pulling one back, Uasin Gishu maintained control and added two more goals through Frince Kavetma, with Manda completing her brace.
At the Utalii Complex, Kisumu progressed to the semi-finals by beating Kakamega 3-1. The upcoming semi-final matchups promise more intense action as these talented teams vie for the Talanta Hela Under-19 national title.
