Jone Kubu’s decisive penalty secured a narrow 10-7 win for Kabras Sugar over Menengai Oilers in the thrilling final of the Driftwood Sevens in Mombasa.
After a 7-7 draw in regular time, the match went into sudden death where Kubu’s heroics sealed the victory.
With this triumph, Kabras now sits at the top of the Series standings, surpassing previous leaders KCB who suffered defeat in the semifinals.
The team’s journey to the final was marked by their strong performance, finishing as runners-up in the season-opening Dala Sevens and finally clinching the Main Cup in Mombasa, earning a maximum of 22 points from the Coastal tour.
In the third-place playoff, KCB emerged victorious with a 29-12 win over Strathmore Leos.
The semis witnessed intense battles, with Oilers narrowly defeating KCB 17-12, while Kabras secured a hard-fought 12-7 victory against Strathmore.
After accumulating 19 and 22 points respectively in the first two tournaments, Kabras now leads the Series with 41 points, followed closely by KCB with 39 points.
Strathmore holds the third spot with 32 points while defending champions Oilers sit in fourth place with 31 points.
The Prinsloo Sevens in Nakuru will be the next stop for the Series, promising more thrilling rugby action.
