Kakamega Homeboyz knocked defending champions Gor Mahia out of the FKF Cup in a round of 16 clashes at Bukhungu Stadium o Sunday.
The match saw few scoring chances created, with the leading scorer of the FKF Premier League, Benson Omalla, missing a crucial opportunity in the early second half.
Moses Mudavadi’s deflected shot deceived goalkeeper Gad Matthews and hit the back of the net in the 56th minute, giving Homeboyz the winning goal.
The victory put Homeboyz through to the quarter-finals of the competition, joining Tusker, Sofapaka, and Ulinzi Stars who secured their spots on Saturday.
Four more games are scheduled for Sunday to determine the remaining quarter-finalists.
Gor Mahia’s head coach, Jonathan Mckinstry, expressed disappointment with the results and said a draw would have been fair.
On the other hand, Kakamega Homeboyz’s tactician, Patrick Odhiambo, was happy with the win and attributed the good performance to the players’ management support.
