In a dominant display, KCB RFC secured their third consecutive victory of the 2023/24 Kenya Cup season by defeating Homeboyz RFC with an overwhelming 77-10 win. The match, which marked KCB’s last game of the year, took place at the KCB Sports Club.
The scoring action kicked off within the first two minutes as Homeboyz’s Brian Juma capitalized on a momentary lapse from the Bankers, opening the scoring with a try. However, the visitors failed to convert, settling for a 5-point lead.
KCB responded swiftly, with Peter Waitere scoring the first try for the Bankers and setting the stage for an emphatic win. Waitere secured his second try, and Festus Shiasi showcased his brilliance on the left wing, extending KCB’s advantage.
The first-half scoring spree continued as Michael Kimwele’s try solidified KCB’s dominant 36-05 lead at the break. Brian Wahinya played a pivotal role as the kicker, handling the conversion duties in the first half.
In the second half, Captain Griffin Musila added to KCB’s tally by grabbing a try just five minutes into the game. Vincent Onyala picked up a brace, while Festus Shiasi and Austin Sikutwa added their names to the score sheet with a try each.
Bob Muhatia joined the scoring parade, securing the last try of the game and ensuring a comprehensive victory for the bankers. Once again, Wahinya stepped up for the conversion.
Homeboyz’s Masete Ramadhan managed to score their second try in the second half, bringing the final score to 77-10.
“We were a bit sloppy in the beginning, giving away an easy try, but I am happy we bounced back and showcased what we are capable of. The team has been a bit slow in warming up in the game, but that is something we hope to address in training and hope to seal the loopholes in the next game,” said KCB RFC Captain Griffin Musila.
KCB RFC will face Mwamba RFC in a New Year opener on January 13, 2024.
