Kenya to Debut Groundbreaking Phygital Cup, Blending Sports and Esports in a Global First
Kenya is set to host the inaugural Kenya Phygital Cup on January 25, 2025, at the Uhuru Sports Complex in Nairobi, marking a transformative moment in the world of sports.
This innovative event will see 32 teams compete for a chance to represent Kenya at the prestigious Games of the Future 2025 in Dubai, UAE.
The Kenya Phygital Cup introduces a revolutionary concept that merges traditional physical sports with esports, creating a new frontier for athletic and gaming enthusiasts. Governed by the World Phygital Community (WPC), the event reflects the rapid global evolution of sports by combining physical exertion and digital skill. Participants will compete in two categories: phygital football and phygital basketball.
Each category will feature 16 teams battling it out in a format that pairs real-life games with virtual simulations. Phygital football will involve 5v5 soccer matches followed by PlayStation 5 simulations, while phygital basketball will pair 2v2 basketball games with their digital equivalents. This format challenges players to excel in both physical and digital arenas, presenting a unique blend of skill, strategy, and adaptability.
Ronny Lusigi, President of Esports Kenya, highlighted the significance of this event in advancing Kenya’s position in the global sporting landscape. “Phygital is a revolutionary concept that merges physical and digital sports.
