Kenya’s athletic stars are set to shine at the upcoming Doha Diamond League this Friday, with a lineup that includes world champions and Olympic medalists ready to compete on the global stage.

Mary Moraa, the reigning world 800m champion, is gearing up for a fierce competition in the women’s 800m race.

She’ll face off against top athletes like Hellen Nakaayi of Uganda, Natoya Goule-Topping of Jamaica, and Benin’s Noelie Yarigo. Moraa enters the race with confidence, having set a meet record and the world’s leading time of 1:57.96 at Nairobi’s Kip Keino Classic last month.

In the men’s 3000m steeplechase, Abraham Kibiwott, the Commonwealth Games champion, aims to continue his winning streak after posting the world’s leading time at the Kip Keino Classic. He’ll be joined by a strong Kenyan contingent, including Olympic bronze medalist Benjamin Kigen and Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Amos Serem.

The men’s 1500m promises to be a thrilling event, with Timothy Cheruiyot, Reynold Cheruiyot, Brian Komen, and Abel Kipsang representing Kenya. Timothy Cheruiyot, undefeated in 2024, seeks to maintain his dominance after setting a meet record at the Kip Keino Classic.

Beatrice Chebet, the world 5000m silver medalist, is another athlete to watch as she competes in her fourth race of the year. Chebet has already secured a second World Cross Country title and aims to add more victories to her impressive track record.

Julius Yego, affectionately known as “Mr. YouTube,” is determined to redeem himself after a challenging season. The 2015 world champion and Olympic silver medalist is eager to leave a lasting impression in Doha, competing against the likes of Neeraj Chopra and Anderson Peters.

Nelly Chepchirchir, fresh off her victory in the women’s mile road race in Germany, is set to challenge a strong Ethiopian field in the women’s 1500m. With the Paris Olympics on the horizon, these Kenyan athletes are not only competing for victory but also for the pride of their nation and the chance to make history.
