Agnes Jebet Ngetich of Kenya has shattered the women’s 10km road race world record, clocking an incredible 28 minutes and 46 seconds at the Valencia Ibercaja race in Spain.
In an astonishing feat, Ngetich surpassed the previous world record by 28 seconds, making history as the first woman to complete the distance in under 29 minutes.
Paced by her compatriot Japheth Kipkemboi Kosgei in the Spanish coastal city, Ngetich set the new record by going through the 5km checkpoint in 14:13.
This was not only six seconds faster than the women’s world record achieved in a mixed race, established by Ethiopia’s Ejgayehu Taye in Barcelona in 2021, but it also matched the time set by Kenya’s Beatrice Chebet in a woman-only race in Barcelona just two weeks prior.
In the women’s race, Emmaculate Anyango secured second place with a time of 28:57, while Lilian Kasait claimed third in 29:32, completing an all-Kenyan podium.
The men’s race was won by Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo, who crossed the finish line in an impressive 26:48.
