Kenya’s AFC Leopards and Harambee Stars veteran fan Isaac Juma Onyango lowered to his final resting place today at his Ebuyenjere village, Mumias West Constituency in Kakamega County.
Juma, 56, blessed with 17 children and 2 wives was slaughtered to death 16 days ago by unknown people at his Mumias West home. The send off was prevailed by calls of justice and emotions.
His funeral ceremony was lined by politicians led by Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya and grieving hundreds of football fans clad in their favorite team’ jerseys. Mr. Oparanya vowed to pay school fees for Juma’s kids and offer other forms of support to his family.
“I have joined hundreds of football fans drawn from all over the country for the final journey of the renowned football fan Isaac Juma at Ebuyenjere village, Mumias West Sub County, Kakamega County. The football fraternity will miss Juma. Rest in peace Juma,” Oparanya posted on his social media platforms.
According to the family and friends, the renowned football diehard was allegedly killed over a family land row. Juma’s family expressed fear of being attacked by Juma’s killers and said they are not interested in staying on the land anymore calling upon Governor Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya to settle them elsewhere, far away for their safety.
“We don’t want this land, our lives are much more important than school fees, we know the killers of our father,” Brian Juma, son of the late Juma, said.
