Kenya’s National Men’s Basketball Team, the Morans, faced their second consecutive defeat in the ongoing FIBA 2025 qualifiers held in Tunis, Tunisia, succumbing to a formidable Angolan squad with a score of 58-88 in a Group E encounter.
The Morans stumbled right from the start, trailing 12-22 in the first quarter and narrowly losing the second quarter 21-22, resulting in a halftime deficit of 33-44.
Despite efforts to rally back after the break, Angola maintained their dominance, clinching a 20-15 victory in the third quarter and sealing the deal with a commanding 24-10 win in the final quarter, ultimately securing an 88-58 win.
Derrick Makenye Ogechi, Albert Odero, and Eugene Adera contributed a combined total of 34 points for the Morans, but it wasn’t enough to offset Angola’s strong performance. Jilson Bango, Childe Dundao, and Gerson Goncalves showcased stellar performances for the Angolan side, leading their team to a comfortable victory.
The defeat against Angola comes after Kenya’s initial loss to the host team Tunisia, with a score of 69-90 on Friday. The Morans will conclude their first window qualifiers against Guinea on Sunday.
The first window of the FIBA 2025 qualifiers began on Friday and is set to conclude on Sunday, with the second window scheduled for November later this year.
