Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) kicked off their campaign at the Africa Volleyball Club Championships with a convincing 3-1 victory over Rwanda’s Police Volleyball Club (PVC) in Cairo on Sunday afternoon.
Under the guidance of coach Sammy Mulinge, KPA dominated the first set with a commanding 25-17 win. However, PVC fought back strongly to narrowly edge out KPA 25-23 in the second set.
Refusing to yield, KPA regained control in the third set, securing a 25-21 victory. They maintained their composure in the fourth set, clinching a hard-fought 25-20 win to seal the match.
This marks KPA’s fourth consecutive appearance in the continental competition, and they still have three more fixtures to contest in Pool D against Green Buffaloes (Zambia), University of Zimbabwe Wolves (Zimbabwe), and VGR.
Later on Sunday, Kenya Prisons, the national league champions, will take on Cameroon’s Port Autonome de Douala.
Meanwhile, Equity Bank, Kenya’s other representative in the tournament, is competing in Pool A. They will face tough competition from Egyptian giants Al Ahly, Democratic Republic of Congo’s Volleyball Club Green, Fath Union Sport of Morocco, and Ethiopia’s Mugher Cement Factory.
