Kenya Rugby Union has announced that Eldoret will host a leg of the national sevens series for the first time since 2018.
The new season calendar was revealed with Eldoret set to host the series opener on June 24-25. The Dala Sevens will be held in Kisumu a week later while the Driftwood Sevens will take place in Mombasa between July 8-9.
The Prinsloo Sevens will resume on August 5-6 in Nakuru after the circuit takes a one-month break. The Christie Sevens leg is slated for August 12-13 at the RFUEA Ground with the Kabeberi Sevens concluding the season on August 19-20.
Last year’s defending champions Menengai Oilers, who won the Prinsloo leg and finished runners-up in four tournaments, are looking to retain their title after missing out on silverware in the Kenya Cup and Enterprise Cup.
Oilers coach Gibson Weru said they have started preparation for their title defence with tough competition expected from established teams such as KCB, Strathmore Homeboyz, and Mwamba.
Shujaa technical bench is expected to hunt for new talent, especially after the emergence of Oilers’ Dennis Abukuse, Strathmore Leos’ George Ooro, and Brunson Madigu last season.
