As AFC Leopards gears up for its 60th-anniversary celebration, the club’s leadership has announced a series of events leading up to the grand festivities at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday.
The chairman, Vincent Shimoli, has unveiled plans for a fundraising event, ‘Ingwe Dinner,’ set to take place on Friday with Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja as the chief guest.
The anniversary’s highlight will be a fans’ tournament finale on Saturday at Camp Toyoyo, followed by an ‘Ingwe Night’ at Nyayo Stadium, featuring performances by local artists and a feast to commemorate the club’s legacy.
A nostalgic friendly match between AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia legends will kick off Sunday’s program, which also includes a friendly game between a select AFC Leopards squad and AE Ramassa from Spain.
Dan Shikanda, the AFC Leopards chairman, extends an invitation to all football enthusiasts to join the celebration and demonstrate the sport’s significance in Kenya. Shikanda, who has played for both clubs, expresses his allegiance to AFC Leopards during the legends’ match.
The club’s patron, Alexander Muteshi, acknowledges the need for strategic changes to revive the club’s glory, despite being proud of its past achievements, including 12 league titles and multiple cup victories.
The club’s 60th anniversary, officially on March 12, was marked by honoring its roots and engaging in community service, reflecting its commitment to social responsibility and honoring its heritage. The upcoming anniversary event promises to be a memorable occasion, celebrating six decades of football excellence and community spirit.
