The reigning New York Marathon champion, Sharon Lokedi, expressed her disappointment at having to withdraw from the Boston Marathon due to an ankle injury.
Lokedi had been named to the elite field alongside several other accomplished runners for the April 17 race.
Despite her setback, Lokedi remains optimistic about her future prospects and has vowed to return stronger.
During a recent appearance on the NTV live sports show, SportOn, Lokedi discussed her previous victory at the New York Marathon and revealed her plans for further treatment and future races.
She also urged her fellow athletes to follow all the rules and compete fairly. Lokedi had been advised to slow her training, but the injury persisted even after an MRI scan revealed nothing.
She plans to compete in small road races after treatment before deciding on which major race to participate in.
Lokedi, who graduated from the University of Kansas in 2019, joined the Under Armour Running Shoe Company after her studies.
She hopes to participate in the New York Marathon in November, a race that she credits with changing her life.
