Napoli has terminated the contract of head coach Rudi Garcia after 16 games, with former manager Walter Mazzarri taking charge until the end of the season.
The 59-year-old Frenchman, appointed in June, leaves the Serie A champions trailing 10 points behind league leaders Inter Milan.
Walter Mazzarri, 62, returns to Napoli, having managed the club from 2009 to 2013. His previous tenure saw Napoli claim their first trophy in two decades with a victory in the 2012 Copa Italia final against undefeated league champions Juventus.
In the following season, Mazzarri guided the team to second place in Serie A, securing a coveted Champions League spot.
Garcia took over as Napoli boss in the summer following Luciano Spalletti’s departure, who had led the club to their first league title in 33 years.
Currently sitting fourth in the table, Napoli suffered a setback with a loss to 17th-placed Empoli on Sunday, resulting in Garcia’s departure. His record includes eight wins, four draws, and four defeats.
