Nigeria’s star striker, Victor Osimhen, faces uncertainty ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations semifinal clash against South Africa in Bouake on Wednesday, according to team officials.
Osimhen, who plays for Napoli, was unable to travel with the rest of the squad on Monday due to abdominal discomfort, as confirmed by Super Eagles spokesman Babafemi Raji.
In a statement released, Raji stated, “Team medics have confirmed that he has been placed under close watch, with a member of the medical team staying behind in Abidjan with him.” Osimhen did not participate in Monday evening’s training session before the team’s departure from Abidjan.
The reigning African Player of the Year was substituted late in the quarterfinal match against Angola over the weekend.
Despite his discomfort, Osimhen has been a crucial asset for Nigeria in the tournament, having scored a goal and provided an assist.
