Manchester United star Jadon Sancho fired back on Sunday, asserting that he has long been “a scapegoat” in response to coach Erik ten Hag’s statement that he was left out of the team due to subpar training performances.
The 23-year-old was notably absent from the squad for Sunday’s Premier League match against Arsenal in London, which saw United suffer a 3-1 defeat.
In a post-match comment, United manager Ten Hag stated, “Jadon, based on his training performances, was not selected. At Manchester United, you have to consistently reach a high level in training, and we have choices to make in the attacking lineup. So, for this particular game, he was not included.”
However, Sancho swiftly offered his response later that Sunday.
“Please do not believe everything you read! I cannot allow false statements to be made about me. I have conducted myself very well in training this week,” he posted on social media.
“I believe there are other factors involved in this situation that I won’t delve into. I have been unfairly targeted for a long time, which is not right!
“I respect all decisions made by the coaching staff, and I am grateful to play alongside incredible teammates, even though I know that every week is a challenge. I will continue to fight for this badge no matter what!”
Sancho, an English international, joined Old Trafford from Borussia Dortmund for a fee of £73 million in 2021. However, he has faced challenges in making a significant impact, having scored just 12 goals in 82 appearances across all competitions.
