Ineos rider Tom Pidcock predicts an intense battle for the Tour de France title, foreseeing a showdown between Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard that could extend to the final stage in Paris.
Pidcock believes Pogacar is the favourite to claim victory, highlighting Jumbo-Visma’s apparent anxiety and desperation in their efforts. He acknowledges that last year everything came together for Jumbo-Visma, but this year seems more challenging for them.
The gruelling mountain stages in the final week, particularly stage 17 with its brutal climbs, could be decisive in shaping the outcome. Stage 20 in the Vosges mountains also poses a potential “all-out war” depending on the standings at that point.
Pidcock emphasizes that the Tour de France is not just about Jumbo-Visma and UAE Team Emirates, as there are multiple races within the race, including the overall title, climb points, and the pursuit of top-10 positions.
Regarding his own role, Pidcock accepts his responsibility to support his teammate Carlos Rodriguez, who currently holds third place overall. Despite his limited experience as a domestique, he is determined to do his best to assist his teammate.
Meanwhile, Rodriguez is solely focused on the battle for third place and is not concerned about his rivals, stating that Pogacar and Vingegaard are in a league of their own.
As the Tour progresses, Pidcock acknowledges the challenges but remains committed to his team and will continue to give his best effort.
