Vihiga Queens’ Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Michael Ogada Senelwa, has announced plans for the team’s training camp as they gear up for the upcoming Cecafa tournament in Kampala, Uganda, scheduled for July.
The tournament will also serve as the third edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers, set to take place in Ivory Coast later this year.
Following a remarkable 2-1 victory against Nakuru City Queens, Vihiga Queens were declared champions-elect for a record-breaking fourth time with a match to spare.
Senelwa, in an interview, commended the team for their determination and set high goals for the upcoming Cecafa showpiece.
“I congratulate the girls for once again making Vihiga County and the nation proud. This victory is a result of hard work, resilience, determination, consistency, and professionalism. Our focus now shifts to the Cecafa title in Uganda. Having participated in 2021, we understand that it’s a challenging competition that requires an exceptional team at all levels. As the management, we will develop a clear roadmap to win Cecafa, qualify for the continental showpiece, and one of our plans is to organize a training camp and reinforce our squad with quality players who will enhance our expectations.”
Vihiga Queens’ last league match of the season will be against GASPO.
The Round of 22 matches will also feature Bunyore Starlets against Nakuru City Queens at Mumboha Grounds, Kisumu All Starlets against Trans Nzoia Falcons at Moi Stadium in Kitale, and Kangemi Ladies facing Wadadia at Dagorretti High School in Nairobi.
All matches are scheduled to kick off at 12 noon, except for Kibera Soccer Ladies vs. Vihiga Queens (2 PM) and Thika Queens vs. Zetech Sparks (11 AM).
Ulinzi Starlets, currently in third place, is expected to be awarded a walkover as their opponents, Kayole Starlets, have already been relegated to the Division One league due to their failure to honour three matches.
