Former Olympic sprinter Tori Bowie, renowned for her remarkable achievements in track and field, has sadly passed away at the age of 32 due to complications during childbirth.
The talented athlete, who captured gold in the 4x100m relay at the 2016 Rio Olympics, as well as silver and bronze in the 100m and 200m events respectively, tragically died at her residence in Florida in May.
Bowie’s agent, Kimberly Holland, expressed her deep sorrow and addressed the hurtful speculations surrounding her client’s untimely death. She hopes that the revelation of the true cause will prompt sincere apologies from those who have contributed to the distress.
An autopsy report, recently obtained by USA Today Sports, concluded that Bowie’s passing was a result of natural causes. At the time of her demise, she was approximately eight months pregnant and in the midst of labour.
The report indicated potential complications, including respiratory distress and eclampsia, a condition characterized by seizures during pregnancy.
In May, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office responded to a welfare check request for a woman in her 30s who had been out of contact for several days. Tragically, the woman, tentatively identified as Frentorish “Tori” Bowie, was discovered deceased in her home.
Bowie, who transitioned from long jump to sprinting in 2014, made an immediate impact on the track, quickly establishing herself as the fastest woman in the world that year.
She holds the distinction of being the sole American woman to have claimed an Olympic or world title in the 100m event since Carmelita Jeter’s victory in 2011.
The track and field community mourns the loss of this exceptional athlete, whose legacy will forever be remembered for her outstanding performances and contributions to the sport.
