The KCB ladies volleyball team, under the guidance of coach Japheth Munala, is seeking divine support as they progress in the Africa Club Championships in Cairo, Egypt.
With a strategic eye on the upcoming round of 16 match against Asec Mimosa, Munala exudes confidence in his team’s prospects, hinting at a potential clean sweep victory.
The anticipation builds as a potential all-Kenyan quarterfinal looms, with Kenya Prisons as the likely opponent, a matchup Munala acknowledges will be challenging yet remains optimistic about advancing to the semi-finals.
The KCB team has been a formidable force in the tournament, kicking off with a hard-fought 3-1 victory against Cameroon’s Litto Team Volleyball. They maintained their momentum with a decisive win in straight sets against Senegal’s Sococim, securing their spot in the knockout phase.
Despite boasting a flawless record, Munala admits the competition has intensified, with the qualifying rounds posing significant challenges, particularly against the Cameroonian and Senegalese teams, reflecting the overall enhancement of African volleyball teams.
As the reigning champions of the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) league, the KCB team is on a mission to recapture the title they ceded in the previous year’s tournament in Kebilia, Tunisia, where they placed fifth.
Joining them in their continental quest are fellow Kenyan teams, Kenya Pipeline and Kenya Prisons. The latter, known as the wardresses, are set to face off against Nigeria’s Custom Service in their own round of 16 clash on Tuesday.
