John Kariuki led his team to victory in the 2023 KCB East Africa Golf Tour at their home leg played at the Limuru Country Club on Saturday.
Kariuki played off handicap one and carded a round of 37, with Tony Karani and Victor Gichuru returning similar scores, to finish with 110 gross points.
The team of Wilfred Gathu, Nicholas Gathuru, Wallace Mwaura, and Mathu Nganga came in second with 106 points. Both teams have earned a place in the tour’s grand finale in November at the Karen Country Club.
George Odhiambo, the Managing Director of the National Bank of Kenya, thanked the golfers for their participation in the tournament, which is in its third leg, and emphasized KCB’s support for the growth of golf in the country through their clinics for juniors and ladies, which they will host at every club they visit.
Alvin Mbugua emerged as the overall winner of the individual competition with 45 Stableford points, beating Victory Waiyaki by two points. Beth Kariuki took home the lady winner’s prize, and Victory won the men’s winner accolade.
James Kimani and Scola Onsongo were awarded the men’s and ladies’ longest drive awards, while Captain Waweru Thuku claimed the nearest to the pin prize.
Scola also took home the staff winner’s prize, and Walter Njenga scooped the Guest’s prize.
The tournament was preceded by a successful lady’s clinic that attracted over 25 participants, while a junior clinic will be held on Sunday.
The fourth leg of the tournament will take place at the Railways Golf Club on May 13th, where two more teams will qualify for the grand finale.
Paul Kahura, a member of the winning team, expressed his delight at the victory and looked forward to representing the club at the grand finale.
