Mary Moraa, just a week after breaking the national 400m record, continued her impressive form by smashing the meeting record at the Silesia Diamond League on Sunday evening with a time of 1:56.85.
The Kenyan athlete outperformed former world champion Halimah Nakaayi, who finished second with a time of 1:57.78, while Natoya Goule-Toppin of Jamaica secured the third spot on the podium with a time of 1:57.90.
With her eyes set on the Monaco Diamond League, Moraa is intensifying her preparations for the upcoming World Championships in Hungary next month.
“I am extremely satisfied with the race and the win. I took control of the race from the front, which is a good strategy of mine. Although I didn’t achieve a personal best, it was still a significant improvement. I am grateful to God for everything. My goal for the World Championships is to finish on the podium. After running the 400m in Monaco, I will return home to Kenya for training,” Moraa stated.
In other events, Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen showcased his dominance in the 1500m race, setting a world-leading time and a new personal best of 3:27.14.
Kenyan athletes Abel Kipsang (3:29.11) and Reynold Cheruiyot (3:30.30) also achieved personal bests, securing second and third place respectively.
In the women’s 3000m, national 5000m champion Lilian Kasait claimed second place with a time of 8:27.80, finishing behind Ethiopia’s Hailu Freyweni, who triumphed in 8:26.61.
South Africa’s Akani Simbine handed reigning world champion Fred Kerley his first defeat of the season in the 100m race. Simbine clocked 9.97, narrowly edging out Kerley, who finished second with a time of 9.98.
